Secure Cargo Course Overview
Secure Cargo Course Details:
The AWCC Secure Cargo (TLIA1001) program can be used to contribute to certain Qualifications within the Procurement, Logistics and Transport industries. The student will be taught the regulatory requirements along with the key skills necessary to secure loads to be transported safely.
TLIA1001 – SECURE CARGO
The Secure Cargo program focus on the fastening/lashing of loaded goods or cargo and can be tailor made to your organisation’s specific needs.
Quite obviously, securing a load is a critical step in transportation and must be completed by competent personnel to ensure the safe movement of loads regardless of type. Having the skills and knowledge to secure a load correctly is often a key factor in an organisations Chain of Responsibility management.
Secure Cargo Course Content & Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding workplace policies and procedures along with local and international standards and legislative requirements relevant to the securing of cargo or freight.
- WH&S and Environmental policies along with safe handling standards.
- Pre Job-Meetings including procedures for managing and controlling hazardous situations and problem solving.
- Planning for work operations including securing lifted material.
- Identifying load characteristics to ensure safe transportation.
- Cargo and load management including marking and numbering systems.
- Identifying lashing points and appropriate fittings:
- securing cargo/containers.
- lashing and unlashing cargo.
- protecting cargo from weather, and
- packing and unpacking cargo.
- Understanding the correct use of:
- Tensioners
- Chocks
- Racks
- Lashings
- Ropes
- Chains, all in line with specific company policies and procedures.
Secure Cargo Learning Methods
Class Room Face to Face Theory combined with a variety of practical applications and competency based assessments.
Secure Cargo Participant Requirements:
As the successful completion of this program is critical to conducting an organisations activity safely it is recommended that participants enrolled will possess the following attributes:
- 10 education and have a proficiency for reading and writing.
- The course requires participants to read and interpret:
- Relevant State and Territory Regulations including safety.
- Policies and Procedures and associated work Instructions.
- Relevant maintenance and instructional manuals.
- Site notices and signs applicable to their role of driving operations within the road transport industry.
Complete documents as part of duties
- Communicate and speak effectively on work activities that relate to lifting or hoisting loads and/or driving operations within the road transport industry.
Be able to follow and apply site safety policy and procedures related to lifting/hoisting loads as well as driving operations within the road transport industry.
